Sketch Opens Hotly Anticipated Christmas Exhibition

The Mayfair restaurant is hosting a series of festive installations.

By Irenie Forshaw

When it comes to celebrating the festive season, Sketch can be relied on to pull out all the stops. This year is no exception: the iconic Mayfair restaurant has opened its annual Christmas exhibition, transforming four of its venues into breathtaking winter wonderland scenes.

Rebel Rebel was responsible for reimagining the reception area. Taking inspiration from Robert Frost’s poem ‘Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening’, the Hackney-based florist has crafted a beautiful installation guiding guests through a glittering tunnel of icy larch branches and silver birch trees powdered with snow.

From here, head to the three-Michelin-starred restaurant (The Lecture Room & Library) where Tony Marklew is displaying an otherwordly Christmas tree bedecked with sparkling crystals. Described as an “ode to the marvels of the subconscious”, the golden tree is inspired by the surrealist artworks of Dali and Magritte. Look out for the colorful eyes and jewel-encrusted hands hidden in the branches of the tree.

Elsewhere at Sketch’s Christmas exhibition, The Glade (a more laid-back dining space) is hosting a jaw-dropping installation by JamJar Flowers. Designed to capture the essence of a dramatic winter storm, expect twinkling candles and an array of seed heads and flowers frosted with white paint.

Finally, be sure to stop by the restrooms. These are no ordinary toilets; the egg-shaped pods are among the most insta-worthy in London. Here, Ricky Paul has crafted a giant snow globe atop a wreath of white flowers and ferns.

Alongside its Christmas exhibition, Sketch has launched a new food and drink offering including five bespoke cocktails and a festive afternoon tea.

The Sketch Christmas exhibition runs through 8 January 2024. Festive Afternoon Tea costs £90 (approx. $112) per person.
