One of Scotland’s most revered ghost distilleries, Brora, has released a set of extremely limited whiskies ahead of its grand reopening later this year. The Brora Triptych set contains three distinct whiskies, including the oldest ever public release from the distillery.
Brora operated for over 150 years before closing in 1983. Since shutting its doors, its remaining casks have become highly sought-after by whisky collectors and drinkers alike. Due to this popularity and investment from owners Diageo, the Brora distillery is set to restart operations later this year. The restoration brings employment and prosperity back to an area once wholly reliant on the distillery.
As its new era approaches, the Brora Triptych set represents one of the final opportunities to own a piece of Scotch whisky history. The whiskies come from some of the last remaining stock from the distillery and each offers a glance into each of its most famous styles (Brora frequently changed its flavor profiles to meet changing consumer demand).

The oldest whisky in the series, Elusive Legacy, is a 48-year-old that offers a very rare earthy style. This profile was only created for a short period and is highly collectible as a result. The second, the 43-year-old Age of Peat, is one of the only examples of heavily peated Highland whisky from the era. The final whisky, the 38-year-old Timeless Original, has the classic waxiness that Brora is best known for. Laid down the year before its closure, it represents some of the final remaining original Brora stock.
Just 300 sets will be available and each purchase includes an invitation from Brora’s master distiller Stewart Bowman to visit and experience the revitalized Brora first-hand. Bowman was born in Brora and has a long family connection with the distillery.
He said: “The stories of Brora are woven into my own history. My father was an old hand at the distillery, and I grew up in the village with the top of the distillery’s bell-tower visible from our kitchen window.

“In the years after Brora’s closure, I remember my father showing me the old cask ledgers and the records of those final casks distilled in 1983 and asking if Brora would return one day. It fills me with great pride that 38 years after the doors of Brora closed, more casks will now be filled, and we will be able to welcome people once again to this special place.
“It is our commitment that we will do justice to the Brora of old and hope to welcome visitors to our restored home as soon as that is possible. In the Brora Triptych, we aimed to celebrate the great whisky styles of the past for which Brora is known.”
The whiskies are presented in crystal decanters topped with Glencairn crystal stoppers and presented together in a beautiful presentation box carved from UK-sourced Ash.
Brora Triptych will be available for purchase globally at the distillery and from its website for an RRP of £30,000 ($41,400).
