The Campbell Bar

A Jazz Age-style bar in Grand Central Station.

By Emma Reynolds

The Campbell Bar was the former office and reception hall of Jazz Age financier John William Campbell, and stepping into this historic bar is like stepping into a bygone era. The bar, which is located within Grand Central Station, features 25-ft hand-painted ceilings, inspired by thirteenth century Florentine style and features a stone fireplace and even Campbell’s personal safe. It’s been lovingly restored by the Gerber Group (who is responsible for Mr Purple, The Pool Bar at TWA Hotel, The Crown and Irvington), and has beautiful design elements, like high-top leather chairs, mohair and leather furnishings and bold brass finishes. The Campbell Bar has three equally elegant places to enjoy a drink, including the main bar, The Campbell Palm Court and The Campbell Terrace (an outdoor veranda with a full bar). Signature cocktails include John Campbell’s Martini, GG Manhattan and The Stackhouse Sour, and there is also an extensive Old Fashioned menu, Negroni menu, wines, sparkling wines and beer. We recommend coming by for the delightful Sunday Jazz.
