Mandarin Oriental Announces Third London Hotel

Mandarin Oriental Bankside is set to open on London’s South Bank in 2028.

Just ahead of the opening of Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, luxury hotel group Mandarin Oriental has announced plans for its third London project in five years’ time. It is set to comprise a standalone building with 171 guest rooms and 70 branded residences, and will form part of the new Bankside Yards development.

Mandarin Oriental Bankside will offer wellness and fitness facilities such as a 25-meter lap pool and a fitness center, as well as a spa providing wellness therapies and beauty treatments. The hotel is intended to be a destination for both visitors and locals, with four culinary outlets on the first and 19th floors and multiple indoor and outdoor events spaces. These will include adaptable function and meeting rooms, with pre-function space, an outdoor terrace and an activity area.

The new Mandarin Oriental London property is being developed by an international real estate consortium including Hotel Properties Limited, Amcorp Properties Berhad and Native Land Limited. These all have an impressive track record of creating properties in and outside the UK, and the former is particularly committed to sustainable practices.

“Bankside Yards is a best-in-class mixed-use destination, devised by Native Land and its partners in the most central riverside location in London,” said chief executive of Native Land, Alasdair Nicholls. “The arrival of a Mandarin Oriental hotel and branded residences will be one of the most important elements in our intention to offer the very best amenities side-by-side with world-class cultural institutions, top-tier businesses and a rich and varied community.

“Such a respected global hospitality brand will positively impact not only the Bankside Yards development itself, but also the wider Bankside and South Bank area.”

The Mandarin Oriental Bankside will be part of a larger Bankside Yards development, which will reconnect the space between Tate Modern and Blackfriars Station. London’s most central riverside location offers views of St Paul’s Cathedral and is ideal for business and leisure travelers alike, who have access to other hotspots in the capital. Bankside Yards is the UK’s first fossil fuel-free major mixed-use development, and will be net-zero carbon in operation.
