King Cole Bar at The St Regis New York is more than just a hotel bar. It’s a stately and historic bar and has been the place to go since 1932. Most other hotels and hotel bars may have fallen out of style, but there’s some sort of magic to this special spot. Not only is this where the Bloody Mary was invented, but many famous faces have passed through this bar, including Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, Salvador Dalí and Joe DiMaggio, to name a few. The bar has a smart dress code — for example, gentlemen must wear jackets. Though there are no reservations, there is one table — Table 55 — that you must make in advance and it costs $2,500 to reserve. Guests of this table will be treated to a secret six-course tasting menu, and taste some of the rarest and most sought-after wines and whiskies in the world. Even if you don’t book this table, its signature drinks are worth the splurge, as well as the beautiful views of the Maxfield Parrish mural that spans across the wall.
