This fall Aman is set to debut its sister brand, Janu, with the launch of a striking new outpost in Tokyo. The luxury hotel group has brought in revered architect Jean-Michel Gathy to oversee the project – the designer behind some of its most iconic resorts in New York, Beijing, and Montenegro.
In contrast to Aman’s ultra-private spiritual escapes, Janu – which means ‘soul’ in Sanskrit – will offer guests a more upbeat experience with a focus on socializing. Expect the brand’s signature luxury touches but with a few extra rooms and a slightly lower price point.
Slated to open this fall, Janu’s debut property in Tokyo will be situated within Azabudai Hills – a sprawling complex of three skyscrapers currently in the final throes of construction, set to house an array of restaurants, shops, a food market and an exclusive collection of private residences.

Overseen by Gathy, Janu Tokyo will be located on floors 1-13 of the B-2 District Tower. The new outpost will feature 122 guest rooms ranging from 592-sq-ft Deluxe Rooms to the 3,056-sq-ft Janu Suite – many of which will boast private balconies and breathtaking views of the Tokyo Tower.
Given that the new Janu brand is all about socializing, there’s a special emphasis on communal spaces. The Tokyo outpost boasts no less than six dining establishments including two Japanese eateries – one sushi, one sumibiyaki (barbeque) – a Chinese restaurant, and an Italian food emporium.
Those that have visited an Aman property before will no doubt be wondering if the spa facilities at the new Janu brand will live up to expectations. The answer is a resounding yes. Janu Tokyo will boast a 43,000 sq ft wellness center (one of the largest in the city) complete with a hydrotherapy and thermal area, an 82-foot heated lap pool, a separate Lounge Pool, and two Spa Houses.
There will also be an assortment of classes available across the five movement studios spanning everything from yoga and pilates to simulated golf training.
