Ferrari Trento Extends F1 Partnership to 2025

Italian sparkling wine producer Ferrari Trento will continue the partnership with Formula 1 until 2025.

By Toby Louch

The taste of success is synonymous with sparkling wine. Just graduated, married, promoted? New house, car, boat, plane? Podium finish in an F1 race? The answer is usually to procure the largest bottle you can and release the bubbles with that oh-so-satisfying pop. At an F1 Grand Prix, there is a single bottle to rule them all: Ferrari Trento, the Italian sparkling wine producer.

Northern Italy has been described as God’s racetrack, but the mountains also provide the ideal climate for a vineyard with warm days and cool nights helping to produce the finest sparkling wine. Not to be confused with Ferrari the car manufacturer, Ferrari Trento was founded in 1902 by Giulio Ferrari — predating the first Ferrari car by 38 years.

In 1952, Giulio Ferrari chose Bruno Lunelli, a highly regarded winemaker in the Trentino region as his successor. Since then, the Ferrari Trento brand has remained within the Lunelli family and is now in its third generation.

At the 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Ferrari Trento began its tenure as the official toast of F1. A major milestone for the company as it became intrinsically linked with arguably the greatest celebration of all.

On June 29, 2022, Ferrari Trento announced during a dinner at Mayfair’s IT London restaurant that they had extended the partnership with F1 for another two years to 2025. Elite Traveler attended the dinner hosted by members of the Lunelli family, including CEO Matteo Lunelli and managing director of F1, Ross Brawn.

As official partners, Ferrari Trento also invited Elite Traveler to the British Grand Prix at Silverstone to experience the true taste of victory.

Silverstone Spectacular

Recent years have seen huge changes for F1. The popular Netflix show Drive to Survive is partly responsible for a dramatic influx of new fans that are pushing the motor racing format to stratospheric levels. It has been the fastest growing sport in the world since 2020.

The 2022 British Grand Prix reflected this growth with an expected 400,000 fans attending the race weekend, making it the largest Grand Prix in history. The perfect occasion to celebrate the two-year extension of the deal with F1 on Ferrari Trento’s impressive 120th year. The F1 Paddock was filled with guests and famous names including Tom Cruise, Gordon Ramsey and Keanu Reeves.

The British Grand Prix unfolded into what would be one of the most exciting races of the year. After the start, the race was immediately placed on hold for an hour after a dramatic crash saw driver Zhou Guanyu slide upside down across the track and vault a safety barrier.

After being freed from the car, examined and declared uninjured, the race was restarted. Featuring the perfect blend of wheel-to-wheel action, strategic pit stops and overtakes which made it one of the most thrilling races of an already impressive season.

During the weekend, over 9,000 bottles of Ferrari Trento were popped at Silverstone as fans joined the festivities of the race weekend. Of those 9,000 bottles, three in particular held a little more importance.

Celebrating in style

At each F1 race, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place are handed a three-litre bottle of Ferrari Trento, the Ferrari F1® Podium Jeroboam. For particularly significant Grands Prix — Silverstone, Monza and Suzuka — Ferrari Trento has produced special edition bottles with a new label design. The 2022 season has seen a further two new bottles added for Miami and Mexico City, with the size and specialization of these limited edition bottles proving popular with collectors.

Contained within the Podium Jeroboam is a Blanc de Blanc made of 100% chardonnay grapes, that have been picked by hand between the end of August and the beginning of September. Aged for an average of 48 months, the jeroboam embodies a new depth of flavor due to the second fermentation in the larger bottle size.

Once poured, a glass will be fresh and intense with broadly fruity apple and wildflower notes on the nose. While maintaining a harmonious, well balanced and vibrant ripe fruit flavor profile.

Silverstone saw Spanish driver Carlos Sainz surge to a dramatic victory — his first ever in the sport — swiftly followed by Mexico’s Sergio Perez and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton in third place.

Following the celebrations on the podium, the three drivers signed a Podium Jeroboam to be auctioned to charity via F1 Authentics, the official F1 store. An initiative started by Ferrari Trento with initial profits going to Michael Schumacher’s Keep Fighting Foundation, this year the proceeds are going towards the International Committee of the Red Cross to support emergency aid in Ukraine.
