Tequila Don Julio paid homage to the life and work of its eponymous founder by hosting an exclusive tasting of its limited-edition Extra-Añejo tequila, Ultima Reserva, at Miami Art Week.
Hosted by Oren and Tal Alexander as part of the Official Salon Series, the night kicked off with an Elite Traveler Cocktail Hour before speeches from the magazine’s SVP Corey Zaretsky and Tequila Don Julio’s global brand ambassador Karina Sanchez.
Ultima Reserva was developed as a tribute to the love Don Julio González poured into every bottle of tequila. Created using the agave from his final harvest, it is a tangible connection to his legacy. Sanchez began her speech by commemorating Don Julio’s final harvest before leading guests through an immersive tasting of Ultima Reserva.
During the tasting, Sanchez explained exactly why Ultima Reserva is held in such high regard among connoisseurs. The tequila was rested in oak barrels previously used to age bourbon and finished in Madeira wine-seasoned casks. Using a Solera aging method that blends and matures tequilas of different characteristics, the result is a wonderfully complex yet perfectly balanced liquid aged for a total of 36 months.
Presented in a beautiful bottle with an etched cap and faceted base, the golden-hued liquor starts with a nose of toasted oak and caramel, followed by delicate notes of citrus and apricot, before finishing with deliciously smooth honeyed agave.
DJ Danny Oldja provided the soundtrack as guests dined on a four-course menu alongside a variety of Tequila Don Julio cocktails. Hosted at an exclusive lounge during one of Miami’s most prestigious annual events, it was a fitting evening to celebrate Ultima Reserva.
Tequila Don Julio Ultima Reserva is currently on sale in limited quantities with a suggested retail price starting at $499. Check out donjulio.com to see where you can find a bottle near you.
