With its diversity of landscape and exceptionally vibrant culture, Latin America is an endlessly rewarding part of the world to travel through and return to time and again. This region is then made even more appealing by the unique nature of its luxury hotels, whether you’re looking to stay on a stretch of idyllic coast or within one of the region’s dynamic cities. Each giving you a real sense of place, these are the hotel openings in Latin America that are most worth traveling for.

Montage Los Cabos
MEXICO

Opening May 2018, Montage Los Cabos will enable you to stay on beachfront that’s said to offer some of the region’s best swimming, diving and snorkeling; the resort will take up 39 acres of the coastline within the Twin Dolphin community between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo on the southernmost tip of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula. With indoor-outdoor living in mind, the resort’s social spaces and suites have been designed to make the most of the desert and coastline they sit between, with native materials and a color scheme of desert tones seen throughout each interior. In this setting, you’ll be offered experiences that give insight into the local culture, the chance to sign up for a wellness journey at Spa Montage, and access to a range of fitness facilities including tennis courts, three pools and The Fred Couples Signature Golf Course. Of the resort’s two dining venues, the beachfront restaurant Marea will focus on the local cuisine, while the signature restaurant Mezcal champions the region’s seafood.

Anantara Marau Bahia Resort
BRAZIL

Following a multi-million-dollar renovation of the former Kiaroa eco-luxury resort, this new Anantara property will open mid-2018, becoming the Asian brand’s first hotel in Brazil. Positioned next to the Bay of Camamu on the Maraú Peninsula of Bahia, the resort will endeavor to introduce guests to the surrounding region through experiences such as surfing, paddle boarding, quad biking and horseback riding, as well as speedboat trips to nearby islands. Beachfront and garden villas, some of which have private pools, will be joined by a main swimming pool with central island for relaxing on, fitness facilities and an Anantara Spa. The restaurants will then focus on local flavors, fusing contemporary gastronomy with Bahian cuisine and fresh local ingredients, with a poolside beach bar to settle into for sunset cocktails.

Grand Hyatt Bogota
COLOMBIA

As this major development nears completion, Grand Hyatt Bogota is preparing for its August 2018 opening. The new hotel lies at the heart of the city’s Ciudad Empresarial Sarmiento Angulo commercial district, which is home to a performing arts center and collection of restaurants and cafes, in addition to being a business hub. The hotel’s sumptuous rooms and suites will be complemented by the addition of a Grand Club Lounge complete with library, Zaitania Spa, which features three hydrotherapy pools, a steam room and sauna, a fitness center and indoor swimming pool. Japanese and Colombian cuisine are the focus at the hotel’s restaurants, Ushin and Regio, with Colombian coffee and baked goods on offer at Divina Patisserie and cocktails and small sharing plates at Cachaco Bar.

Four Seasons Hotel Sao Paulo at Nacoes Unidas

Opening in fall 2018, this new Four Seasons hotel will lie alongside the tree-lined Pinheiros river in southern Sao Paulo. Part of the leafy Parque de Cidade development, the hotel will be situated within the country’s newest center of commerce and culture. The new Four Seasons tower will rise up to 29 stories high, with 16 floors of hotel space featuring guest rooms and suites, two restaurants—a multi-level indoor-outdoor dining space serving northern Italian cuisine, and a lobby lounge and bar—a luxury spa offering locally inspired treatments and an indoor-outdoor pool. The remaining floors will be set aside for Four Seasons Private Residences.

W Panama, Panama City
PANAMA

Opening this month, W Panama will brings its combination of art, design, fashion and entertainment to Panama City’s 50-floor Evolution Tower. The new hotel has incorporated three Wow suites and one Extreme Wow suite into its collection of luxury guestrooms, and these feature alongside two signature restaurants (La Cajita and Moro), the Living Room shipping container cocktail bar, and the nightclub and cocktail bar Cargo. WET outdoor pool, a fitness center and the AWAY Spa are also integrated into the space. You can request an in-room spa treatment here, and attend aerobic and yoga classes.

Zadún, a Ritz Carlton Reserve
MEXICO

This oceanfront resort sits on the San José del Cabo coast, where the desert and Sea of Cortez collide. Individual villas, some of which have private plunge pools, are scattered across the desert botanical park having been built within the steppes of this unique landscape, alongside two championship golf courses. Every villa comes with a personal butler ensuring you have the best possible service throughout your stay. This is the fourth Ritz Carlton Reserve to have been created and is said to be opening early this year.

The St Regis Kanai Resort, Riviera Maya
MEXICO

After being delayed for a number of years (it was originally scheduled to open in 2011), this St Regis resort will start welcoming guests in from December. A collection of rooms, suites and standalone villas, which come with private pools, will be positioned around its four restaurants, the resort’s signature Remede Spa, oceanfront swimming pools and two 18-hole golf courses, which have been designed by Jose Maria Olazabal and Nick Faldo. Throughout the resort, the interiors are inspired by indigenous Mexican design, with the Edmonds International architect firm behind the ambitious structure.

W Kanai Retreat, Riviera Maya
MEXICO

Another hotel that’s said to be opening December of this year is the new W Kanai Retreat on Mexico’s Riviera Maya. With architecture designed by Richard Meier & Partners Architects, the beachfront resort will stand out for the distinct T-shape geometric architectural design of the main hotel, which will encompass terraced suites with private outdoor showers and bar areas, and surroundings comprising lush mangroves and pristine beaches. The new retreat will feature two restaurants and three bars and state-of-the-art spa facilities. The hotel is then a part of the bigger Kanai Resort, which brings together four hotels and a beach club, with two golf courses nearby.

Hotel Amapa, Puerto Vallarta

With an identity that draws on its Colonia Amapas neighborhood setting in Puerto Vallarta, Hotel Amapa fully embraces its surroundings. Here on Mexico’s Pacific Coast between the Sierra Madre Mountains and sandy beach, the hotel is met with stunning views as well as being at the heart of a culturally vibrant area. Four Seasons Los Cabos at Costa Palmas

This new Four Seasons hotel’s grounds will be connected to the 1,000-acre private beachfront community, Costa Palmas, and its deep-water marina featuring 250 slips. This also means the resort is just moments away from the marina village and its boutiques, restaurants and locally curated music and art offering, while onsite the resort promises to have multiple pools, five dining venues, an extensive spa and fitness facilities. From its position on the coast, the resort commands views over the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains and the Sea of Cortez, which is ideal for snorkeling and diving, as well as sport fishing, windsurfing and kite boarding. The mountains then provide the perfect terrain for hiking, biking and horseback riding with waterfalls and hot springs to stumble upon. The hotel will make its debut later this year.

Viveroy Los Cabos
MEXICO

Another arrival to Mexico’s Baja Peninsula is this architecturally impressive hotel designed by Miguel Angel Aragonés. The resort stands out most for being entirely surrounded by water, with elevated walkways connecting each of the property’s contemporary white buildings where terraces from the indoor-outdoor suites and villas overlook the glistening pools and white sand beach. As a Viceroy property, the resort has a wealth of facilities including four restaurants and lounges, a rooftop bar, fitness center, spa and movie theater. The resort plans to open in spring.

Awakening, Riviera Maya

Dedicated entirely to the pursuit of happiness, this luxury hotel promises to be the first of its kind with architecture that’s designed to mimic nature’s forms and a beautiful setting by the Nopalitos Lagoon (which is in fact a cenote) next to the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve on Mexico’s Riviera Maya. Guests will stay in cocoon-like villas, which combine characteristics of a treehouse and beach hut and are designed to blend into the coastal jungle. Taking on a barefoot luxury philosophy, the resort will aim to bring guests into contact with the natural world while providing experiences that nourish the soul. This is paired with a strong sustainability ethos, bringing even more positivity to the resort. Awakening is scheduled to open in 2019.
