Not long after I posted the severe weather threat for today, the Storm Prediction Center has expanded the Slight Risk for Severe storms to now include much of Central Alabama, including the cities of Alexander City, Anniston, Birmingham, Clanton, Demopolis, Gadsden, Hoover, Montgomery, Talladega, Troy, and Tuscaloosa.
The Marginal Risk has been shifted around and has dropped a good portion of North Alabama while adding a little more of the southeastern portions of Central Alabama. The Marginal Risk now includes Auburn, Cullman, Guntersville, Rainsville, and Troy.
Timing for the threat of strong to severe storms remain the same, starting around 12 pm in the far northwest and coming to an end around 9 pm tonight in the southeast.
All modes of severe weather remain possible today (tornadoes, damaging winds up to 60 mph, quarter-size hail) along with the potential of a few flash flooding issues.
Stay tuned.
