The combination of instability and shear will overlap briefly Sunday evening, leading to the chance for a few strong to severe storms. Damaging winds will be the primary threat, but a tornado or two cannot be ruled out across northwest Alabama.
Timing for the potential of stronger to severe storms will be from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm today. Also, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected within the broader rain area, and this will result in locally enhanced rainfall rates that would enhance any ongoing flooding. As a result, both flash flooding and rises on area rivers and streams are possible.
A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for much of North Alabama this evening thru Monday morning.
A Flood Watch is in effect for the northwestern corner of Central Alabama this evening through Monday morning.
