The Storm Prediction Center has issued a level 2 Slight Risk for severe storms for Thursday for the southwestern portions of Central Alabama. The risk area includes locations along and west of a line from Pickensville to Moundville to just west of Selma.
Outside of that, SPC has introduced a level 1 Marginal Risk for severe storms for locations along and west of a line from Hamilton to Gardendale to Sylacauga to just east of Brundidge.
There is the potential for severe thunderstorms across portions of Central Alabama late Thursday through the early morning hours on Friday, including the risk of damaging wind gusts up to 60 MPH and a few tornadoes.
We could see a few discrete cells form out ahead of the main cold front and squall line that will have the potential for damaging winds and tornadoes. Those threats will also be possible with the main squall line as it moves through the risk locations.
As of now, the main window for severe storms will be from Thursday night at 9:00 pm through 8:00 am on Friday morning moving west to east across the risk areas.
