It’s a bright, sunny day across the area as we are about to leave the midday hour and cross into the early afternoon. The only relief that you will see from the hot summertime weather in Central Alabama for today will either be to stay indoors or to be at the beach with your toes in the sand and wading out into the waves. Temperatures across Central Alabama were ranging from as low as 88 degrees in Haleyville and Cullman to as hot as 93 degrees in several locations. Birmingham was at 91 degrees.
A Heat Advisory remains in effect for the western counties in Central Alabama until 7:00 pm this evening as heat index values could reach or exceed 105 degrees. NWS Huntsville canceled the Heat Advisories for their western counties as heat index values look to stay below advisory criteria for today.
For this afternoon and into the early evening hours, skies will remain mostly clear across the area, but we do have a very small chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm, only around 20%. Afternoon highs will top out in the 92-98 degree range. For tonight, skies will be mainly clear and lows will only drop into the lower to mid-70s.
