Not That Bad at Midday, a Few Showers are Possible Later Today

As of 11:05 am, we have clouds over the extreme eastern and northeastern parts of Central Alabama, but those thin out as you move west and southwest. There is a good bit of sunshine in those areas. Radar is free from any shower activity at this time, but with the upper low just off to our north in Middle Tennessee, we may see some showers fire up with the heating of the day.

Temperatures at the 11:00 am roundup were in the mid-60s to the upper 70s. Birmingham was at 72 degrees. The cool spots were Anniston and Gadsden at 66 degrees. The warm spot was Troy at 77 degrees.

Like I mentioned earlier, with the upper low stationed to our north in Middle Tennessee, we’ll continue to see some clouds move around the center and through Central Alabama throughout the rest of the day. There is a small chance of showers and maybe a thunderstorm or two for locations mainly north of the I-20 corridor east of I-65, while the rest of Central Alabama should stay dry. Afternoon highs will reach the mid-70s to the lower 80s across the area. We could see a few lingering showers over those same locations for the first couple of hours after sunset, but those will mainly diminish by the late local news. Lows will be in the mid-50s to the lower 60s.

Thursday will be a mainly dry day across Central Alabama as temperatures will be on the rise. We’ll have a good bit of sunshine, but we will have a very small chance of a few isolated showers or thunderstorms across the area. Chances will be slightly higher across the southern locations mainly along and south of the US-80 and I-85 corridors as a stationary front will be draped across that portion of the state. Afternoon highs will be in the upper 70s to the mid-80s across the area.
