Very Nice Just After Midday; Rain Returns After Midnight

As we have made it to the 1:00 pm hour on this first Monday of February, skies are nearly completely clear across the area with the exception of a few very thin clouds floating over the northeastern parts of the area that is barely filtering the sun. Temperatures are in the upper 60s to the lower 70s at this point. Birmingham was at 71 degrees, just behind the warm spot of Montgomery at 73 degrees. The cool spot is Cullman at 67 degrees.

Not much to complain about for the rest of the daylight hours except for having to be stuck in the workplace with this unseasonably warm and beautiful weather. While we start to have some clouds move in before sunset, skies will stay mainly sunny across Central Alabama. Highs will be in the lower to mid-70s. Skies will continue to become cloudy during the late-night and overnight hours, and rain chances will rise after midnight. Rain chances will become likely over the northwestern parts of the area, while the southeastern parts will only have a very small chance. Lows will be in the mid to upper 50s for most.

Rain and a thunderstorm or two will be likely at times through nearly all of the day on Tuesday, but we are not expecting any strong to severe storms. Skies will be cloudy when it is not raining. Temperatures will stay mild with afternoon highs reaching the mid-60s to the lower 70s.

The Storm Prediction continues to have nearly all of Central Alabama in a Marginal Risk (level 1 of 5) for severe storms through the day on Wednesday while a Slight Risk (level 2 of 5) is up for the extreme southern parts of the area and down into South Alabama. Much of the activity looks to stay along and just north of the Gulf Coast and will keep much of the energy from reaching Central Alabama. With that being said, we could still see a few isolated damaging wind gusts up to 60 MPH and a brief tornado in the area. Timing for stronger to severe storms will be from midday to midnight on Wednesday. We’ll keep you updated through the next 48-60 hours.
