Periods of training heavy rain may produce flash flooding from portions of central MS into North/Central AL through 7:00 pm. Three-hour rainfall rates near 1.5 inches will overlap with earlier heavy rainfall from earlier this morning.
A broken line of rain and storms from the south-central parts of Mississippi into Central Alabama and is currently associated with a warm front. Instability continues to be rather weak at the moment and therefore only a few claps of thunder have been heard so far.
Parts of Central Alabama have already received 1-2 inches of rainfall, with some localized heavier amounts. A few reports of localized flooding have been received over the past couple of hours near Tuscaloosa and Birmingham.
All of this activity will continue to move mostly eastward with a slow northward component mixed in. Training of heavier cells may occur and rainfall rates of up to 1/2 inch to 1 inch per hour will be possible. Flash flooding may be possible through the rest of the afternoon and into the evening hours.
