At 11:20 am CDT, we are hot and dry across Central Alabama as temperatures are already up in the upper 80s to the lower 90s. Birmingham was at 93 degrees. Tuscaloosa was at 91 degrees. The cool spot was Prattville at 88 degrees while the hot spot was Jasper at 95 degrees.
Unfortunately, those temperatures will continue to climb underneath these mostly clear skies and will eventually reach the upper 90s to just over 100 degrees across the area. There is a very, very slight risk of an isolated shower or two over the extreme southern parts of the area, but nearly all of the area will remain dry. Skies will be mainly clear as we go through the evening and overnight hours and lows will drop into the upper 60s to the lower 70s.
Thursday will be another day that the blast furnace will bring more record-breaking heat to Central Alabama. Now there will be a small chance of isolated showers or thunderstorms across the southern third of the area, but once again most will stay dry. Highs will be in the upper 90s to right at 100 degrees across Central Alabama.
While Lorenzo has now become extratropical and continues to zoom off to the northeast, he may bring some strong winds and heavy rain to parts of Ireland and the UK on Thursday and Friday. There is also a tropical disturbance over the western Caribbean Sea that is forecast to move west-northwest toward the Yucatan Peninsula and eventually into the Gulf of Mexico. It is only given a 10% chance of developing into a depression or storm within the next 5-days. No threat to the Alabama Gulf Coast.
