Hot & Dry At Midday; Code Orange Ozone Alert

It’s a sunny and hot day across Central Alabama at 11:25 am. Temperatures are already up in the mid-80s to the lower 90s. Birmingham was at 90 degrees. The cool spots were Haleyville and Cullman at 84 degrees. Prattville was the hot spot at 92 degrees.

CODE ORANGE AIR QUALITY ALERT FOR OZONE
Ozone is expected to rise into the orange range today across the Birmingham metropolitan area, therefore an Air Quality Alert has been issued. PM2.5 is expected to be in the green range.

WEATHER FOR THE REST OF YOUR FRIDAY
Well, the heat is on for the rest of today as we’ll have plenty of sunshine and afternoon highs reaching the mid-90s to at or just over 100 degrees. Our only saving grace from keeping us out of the heat advisories and the excessive heat warnings is that we have drier air in place over Central Alabama, with dewpoints in the upper 50s to right at 60 degrees for the afternoon hours. Clear skies for tonight with lows dropping into the upper 60s to the lower 70s.

VERY HOT WITH HUMIDITY LEVELS STARTING TO RISE
The blast furnace will continue on Saturday as we’ll see afternoon highs in the upper 90s to just over 100 degrees across the area. Dewpoints will be a little higher which will make it feel a few degrees warmer than the actual temperature. There will be a very small chance of a few isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms over the extreme southeastern parts of the area, while the rest of Central Alabama will stay dry.
