A Good Chunk Of Central Alabama Under A Heat Advisory For Today

With daytime highs expected to top out in the 93-97 degree range and heat indices to reach the 105-107 degree range, both NWS Birmingham and NWS Huntsville has issued a HEAT ADVISORY for a good portion of their county warning areas.

NWS Birmingham has issued a HEAT ADVISORY that will start today at 12:00 pm and will expire at 9:00 pm tonight for the following counties in Central Alabama: Autauga, Barbour, Bibb, Bullock, Chilton, Dallas, Elmore, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo, Marion, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Pike, Russell, Shelby, Sumter, Tuscaloosa, Walker, Winston.

NWS Huntsville has issued a HEAT ADVISORY that will start today at 12:00 pm and will expire at 7:00 pm tonight for the following counties in North Alabama: Colbert, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heatstroke is an emergency, call 9 1 1.

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and check up on relatives and neighbors.
