COLD FRONT INVADES CENTRAL ALABAMA LATE ON MONDAY
Much of the first half of the day looks to be dry across Central Alabama, but we can expect a few isolated to scattered showers to form during the afternoon hours. After that, a rare summertime cold front will move into the northwestern parts of the area during the evening and slowly progress southeastward and ending up near the I-59 corridor just before sunrise on Tuesday morning. Showers and thunderstorms will be likely along and ahead of the front in a window from 5:00 pm to 5:00 am Tuesday. Monday’s highs will be in the upper 80s to the lower 90s from northwest to southeast across the area.
SHOWERS & STORMS MOVE SOUTH, DRIER & COOLER AIR MOVES IN ON TUESDAY
While a chance of showers and thunderstorms will continue for a couple of hours after daybreak in the northern half of Central Alabama, they will be likely for locations along and south of the front as it continues to move southeastward through the southern half of the area. Cooler and less humid air moves in behind the front dropping temperatures to below average for overnight lows. Highs will be in the lower to mid-80s across the area from northwest to southeast, with lows dropping into the lower 60s to near 70 degrees.
MUCH OF THE AREA WILL BE DRY & COOLER FOR WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY
The good news is that the front is expected to move all of the way out of Alabama and will be over the northern Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday, but it will stall out and will be there on Thursday. Much of Central Alabama will be dry with mostly sunny skies, but the extreme southeastern parts of the area (south of I-85) could see a few isolated to scattered afternoon showers and storms on Wednesday. Highs will be in the lower to mid-80s on Wednesday then up into the upper 80s to around 90 degrees on Thursday.
RETURNING TO NORMAL SUMMERTIME WEATHER FOR THE WEEKEND
Friday will continue to be mostly sunny, but humidity levels will begin to start to increase. There will be a slight chance of a few isolated to scattered afternoon showers and storms. Highs in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. Saturday and Sunday will be partly to mostly cloudy and a little more humid, with a chance of scattered afternoon and early evening showers and thunderstorms. Highs on both days will be in the mid to upper 80s across the area.
THE TROPICS
A trough of low pressure over the Central Bahamas is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions are likely to be unfavorable for significant development during the next couple of days while the trough moves westward to west-northwestward at around 15 mph. Development is not anticipated after that time due to strong upper-level winds. Formation chance through the next five days is only 10%. The rest of the Atlantic Basin is quiet at this point.
